Sour Cream Chocolate Cake

Your Cake Ingredients
Cake pans choices:
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1-cup water
- 3/4 cup dairy sour cream
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1-teaspoon salt
- 1-teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
13x9x2 inches; 2 round pans at 9x1 1/2 inches; or 3 round pans at 8x1 1/2 inches
Heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour your cake pans.
Mix together all of the ingredients. Mix on low setting for 30 seconds, scraping the bowl with a spatula as you go. Next, mix the batter on a high speed for about 3 minutes. Scrape the bowl occasionally. Pour the mixed batter into cake pans.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Use the following baking times based on the cake pan(s) chosen:For the 13x9x2 inch rectangular pan, bake for roughly 40-45 minutes.If using multiple cake pans, bake for about 30-35 minutes.
Cool the cake completely before frosting the cake with this easy chocolate frosting.
An Easy Frosting Recipe
- 1/3 cup margarine or butter, softened
- 3 – 1 ounce squares of unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup dairy sour cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
Mix the butter and chocolate together.
Stir the powdered sugar into the chocolate and butter mixture.
Add the vanilla and sour cream next and mix all the ingredients together until it becomes smooth enough to spread across the cooled sour cream chocolate cake.
