Quick Prep:

Place the oven rack to the middle position if it’s not already there. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Lightly grease and flour the bottom and sides of a 9x5x3-inch loaf pan and set aside.

Now you’re ready to begin preparing the bread batter. You can actually do this bread mix by hand, but I still prefer to use my mixer.

Ingredients For Your Chocolate Banana Bread

  • 1 ¾-cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 1-cup white sugar
  • 1-teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 1-teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips, white chips, or butterscotch chips

How To Make Moist Chocolate Banana Bread

Combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a mixing bowl and set aside.

In a separate bowl, mash the bananas. Then, add the eggs, melted butter, and pure vanilla to the bananas and mix until well blended. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients.

If you’re mixing by hand, continue to fold the ingredients together with a wooden spoon just until they’re mixed. If you’re using a mixer, use the lowest setting and only mix the ingredients until they’re just blended – no more.

The chips of your choice are added last and are best added to the batter using a spoon and folding them in gently. Make sure they’re dispersed evenly throughout the batter.

Pour the bread batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 60 minutes or until a knife or toothpick inserted in the middle of the bread comes out clean.

Allow the chocolate banana bread to cool slightly before removing it from the pan. Release the sides of the bread from the sides of the pan using a butter knife inserted as close to the side of the pan as possible so you don’t gouge the bread.

Gently invert the bread into one hand (upside down) and shake the pan slightly so the loosened bread pops out into your hand. It’s best to wear gloves on both hands to prevent possible burns. Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing and serving.
