Rice Krispy Treats



Rice Krispy Treats are delicious all by themselves without any additions, but imagine them dipped in chocolate and topped with colorful Hershey M&Ms…now that’s a recipe that anyone with a sweet tooth would love.

This chocolate dipped treat is perfect for serving at birthday parties, cookouts, and family reunions. Give them as gifts wrapped up in a colorful tin during the holidays or bundle them in a food basket for a birthday or anniversary. Give our Rice Krispy Treats a try.



The Ingredients For Your Special Treats



  • 3 Tablespoons butter

  • 1 bag marshmallows

  • 1 box Rice Krispies (store brand works as well as the name brand)

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips or semisweet baking chocolate squares

  • 1 cup mini Hershey M&Ms


Quick Prep:

Do use a large, deep pot. Once you add the cereal, the mixture can be quite unwieldy and can come out over the top of the pot if it’s not deep enough.

I used my stock pot and it worked beautifully. That may seem like too big of a pot for some people, but I thought I’d mention it because my dutch oven was not deep enough to handle the mixture.

It helps to coat your mixing utensil with a small amount of butter or cooking spray so the marshmallows don’t stick as badly to it while you’re stirring.

Grease a 9x13x2 pan and set to one side.

Now Mix the Rice Krispy Treats



Melt butter in a large pot over low to medium heat. Add the marshmallows to the melted butter. Stir until the marshmallows are melted and mixed well with the melted butter.

Add the toasted rice cereal and begin to stir. Stir from the bottom and fold the cereal into the butter and marshmallow mixture to get better coverage.

Once the toasted rice cereal is completely covered with the marshmallow and butter mixture, press it into the prepared pan so it’s evenly distributed. Allow it to cool completely.

Cut the krispy treats into squares or rectangles.

Time for Dipping and Decorating



Rice Krispy Treats

Melt the chocolate chips or baking squares in the microwave or using a double boiler. Go slowly – you don’t want to burn the chocolate.

Dip each Rice Krispy treat into the melted chocolate. I just dipped the top of each treat, but you can do it any way you like. Place the dipped treat onto wax or parchment paper.

Decorate the top of the Rice Krispy treats with colorful Hershey M&Ms. It is best to do this while the chocolate is still warm so the candy pieces stick.

Optional toppings either in place of the M&Ms or in addition to them might include Heath Bits candy or sweetened coconut.

Allow the chocolate to set and cool and then they’re ready to serve!
