Brownie Recipe



Brownie Recipe your going to love. Brown sugar brownies, or butterscotch brownies as they are sometimes called, are a moist, melt-in-your-mouth concoction that will make you want to reach for another.

Not everyone has tried the butterscotch recipe and some substitution, such as chocolate bits for nuts, is always possible. Give it a try: this brownie recipe might just become your mothers favorite as well!



This recipe is another one that a friend mother shared with me in her handwritten recipe book. She is famous for making up recipes as she goes along. This is her version of a popular recipe using brown sugar in place of refined sugar.

I substituted chocolate kisses for the nuts, but otherwise the recipe is listed just as she wrote it down.

It’s a quick and easy recipe too – all of the ingredients go into a single mixing bowl. Simply pour the batter into a prepared pan and bake. Brown sugar brownies are the perfect dessert for any occasion, but especially if you need a dessert fast.



Quick Prep:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Grease and flour a 10x15 or 9x13 pan and set aside.



Ingredients for Brown Sugar Brownies

  • 2/3 cup butter

  • 2 cups brown sugar

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 ½ cups flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla

  • 1 cup chopped nuts OR chocolate pieces

**If you’re using unsalted butter, add ½ teaspoon salt to the batter as well.

Mix all of the ingredients in the order listed.

Instead of nuts, I chopped up Hershey kisses and tossed those into the batter. You could also add butterscotch baking chips or chocolate chips for another variation. Spread the well-blended batter into your prepared pan.






Bake for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Be careful not to overbake the brownies.

While the brownies are still hot, sprinkle a generous amount of powdered sugar over the top.

Cut the brownies into squares and serve warm. They’re perfect with ice cream! They’re also delicious after they’ve cooled, so they’re ideal lunch-box fare for the children or your husband.
